Bale Spear for Round Hay Bales | Berlon

The Round Bale Spear Attachment provides the best solution for handling round hay bales. The bale spear carriage is fitted with a bale guard for easy dumping and to help push bales. This extends 18 inches about the carriage, for a total height of 39 inches.

When moving round bales, a Conus II, 44-inch or 49-inch tine is typically used on top, depending on how thick the bale is (remember the diameter is not the thickness of the bale).

For the bottom tines, the most important question to be answered is whether the carriage setup will be used to dump the bales into a bale feeder, TMR mixer, or tub grinder. If so, it is mandatory that two Conus I 40-inch tines are used on the bottom as stabilizers. This keeps the top tine from supporting all the weight as you dump the bale off of the tines.

If the bale spear attachment will just be used to move or stack round bales, use of the shorter tines is acceptable. However, the top tine will face extra stress if you drive fast over rough terrain.
